Early 1888 Prairie Doll With Cutter Quilt Bag & Clothespin Dolls

A primitive, early 1888 prairie pioneer made from tea-dyed muslin, with a smoky blue civil war print dress, brown civil war print loons and a cheesecloth apron.  Her prairie bonnet is made from osnaburg.  Attached to her dress is a civil war print heart with a rusty safety pin and button.  Finished with an 'Early 1888' tea-dyed hang tag (not shown in photograph).  To give her an early appearance all items have been heavily grunged with coffee and spices.

Attached to her arms by rusty wire is a swag made up of a cutter quilt bag and two clothespin dolls.  The cutter quilt bag is made from an antique American 'checkerboard' quilt, circa late 1800's from Anderson, Indiana.  It is filled with sheep's wool and three little pitch tapers tied with cheesecloth.  Attached to the bag with a rusty safety pin is an old key.  The clothespins dolls are made from two vintage clothespins.  They have muslin faces, homespun dresses and cheesecloth aprons.  Their bonnets are cheesecloth tied with jute.  Tied to the swag is a circular 'Flax' hang tag.  Again, all items have been grunged with coffee and spices.

All handmade by me.

Please note that this is a collector's item and not intended for children.
